Austin, Texas – TCU track and field continued competition at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Friday, where Chengetayi Mapaya finished as the top collegian in the triple jump and a trio of relays advanced to Saturday's finals.
In the men's triple jump, Mapaya jumped an outdoor personal-best 16.56m (54-4) and led all collegians. His jump ranks second in school history, only one centimeter behind Scotty Newton's school record and is one of the top marks in the nation so far this season. Mapaya finished ahead of several competitors from the Big 12 and trailed only former USA National Champion Chris Carter, who in 2018 jumped 17.18m and finished No.13 in the world. For back-to-back years at the Texas Relays, TCU has finished with the top collegian in the men's triple jump, with Newton last year and Mapaya this year.
In the women's 4x400 relay prelims, the tandem of Kennedy Crawford, Lily Beckford, Kiana Banks, and Asiah Fields led the field with a season-best 3:38.90 and finished ahead of Kansas State and UNLV, both of which were ranked ahead of TCU in the regional rankings. TCU will compete in the 4x400 finals on Saturday at 4:40.
Both of TCU's 4x100 relays advanced to Saturday's finals. The women's relay of Hope Glenn, Destiny Longmire, Jenea Spinks, and Teleda Williams won their heat and finished sixth overall with a time of 45.61. On the men's side, Lebogang Maloka, Tarrick Brock, Darrion Flowers, and Derrick Mokaleng finished ninth in the prelims with a time of 40.22 and secured their spot in Saturday's finals.
Freshman Patrick Sylla made his outdoor collegiate debut in section "B" of the men's long jump, where he finished third with a jump of 7.48m (24-6.5).
