LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU track and field began competition at the Texas Tech Shootout on Friday where several Horned Frogs had their best performances of the season. Chengetayi Mapaya broke the school indoor triple jump record, while Derrick Mokaleng matched the school indoor 400m record.
SCHOOL HISTORY
Friday's action saw some of the top triple jump marks in the nation and the field included a former national champion, former national runner-up, and national bronze medalist. TCU's Mapaya finished second with a jump of 16.65m (54-7.5), breaking Scotty Newton's TCU indoor record of 16.63m from last year's Big 12 meet.
Mokaleng also had a career day, finishing second in the 400m with a time 45.67, matching Lewis Banda's school record from the 2006 season. Mokaleng's previous indoor personal-best came at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships when he ran 45.68.

In the women's 60m, Hope Glenn advanced to the finals and ran a season-best time of 7.47.
COACH'S THOUGHTS
"We had a good first day," head track and field coach Darryl Anderson said. "Du (Mapaya) in the triple jump and Derrick's 400 were outstanding. Mariah won her first race of the season and Mandel won the 5K. The 60 guys and girls all improved their times. We'll compete tomorrow, see what happens, and keep getting ready for conference."
UP NEXT
TCU returns to action on Saturday for day two of the Texas Tech Shootout. The final day of the meet will feature the men's and women's 4x400 relays, as well as Destiny Longmire in the women's long jump, and the debut of Patrick Sylla in the men's long jump.
