Rifle Heads To Air Force For NCAA Qualifier

Frogs looking to solidify spot in the NCAA Championships
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 2 ranked TCU women's rifle team will compete in its NCAA Qualifier match this weekend against No. 3 Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Horned Frogs will look to solidify their 13th consecutive appearance in the National Championship match.
The Frogs are coming off a second-place finish at the PRC Championships, where they fell to the Falcons by a score of 4,708-4,695.
TCU currently has the second highest three-location score average (4,713). Their mark in the qualifier match will count as the fourth and final score in determining the field of eight for the NCAA Championships.
As a team they also own the top air rifle average in the nation with a mark of 2,375.2 and the fifth best smallbore average. Rachel Garner paces the team with the fourth best aggregate average in the country, a 1,178.3. Teammates Elizabeth Marsh and Casey Lutz follow, both ranking in the top ten with scores of 1,174.4 (eighth) and 1,173.8 (ninth), respectively.
In smallbore, the Frogs are led by Garner and Marsh. Garner ranks fifth with an average mark of 584.4, followed by Marsh with a 582.6, good for sixth in the country.
Five Frogs rank in the top 14 overall performers in the air rifle discipline. Lutz sits in second nationally with an average score of 595.8. Garner owns a 593.9 average, the seventh best, while freshman Kristen Hemphill ranks 10th with a mark of 592.8. Angeline Henry and March round out the top 14 with scores of 592.1 (13th) and 591.8 (14th), respectively.
The Falcons are paced by Peter Flori who ranks 10thin the NCAA with a 1,173.7 aggregate (582.1 in smallbore and 591.6 in air rifle).
The qualifier is slated to begin at 9 a.m. (CT).
