Yummy Morris scores career-high 16 points in 82-70 defeat
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – TCU's Yummy Morris scored a career-high 16 points and Lauren Heard chipped with another 16 points, but it was not enough as the Horned Frogs fell to Middle Tennessee 82-70 on the road Sunday afternoon at the Murphy Center.
The loss dropped TCU to 9-2 overall, while MTSU pushed its record to 8-4 with the home win.
THE RUNDOWN
Middle Tennessee opened the game with a 14-0 run, knocking down 5-of-10 from the field and limiting TCU to a 0-for-11 effort, while also outrebounding the Horned Frogs 11-5 during that span. The Frogs cut the deficit to nine points late in the first quarter, but MTSU managed to take a 10-point lead into the second quarter, up 24-14.
Despite the Blue Raiders knocking down a three-pointer to open the second quarter, TCU used a 15-5 run to get back within five points, down 34-29 at the 5:33 mark. MTSU later countered with a 7-0 run and took a nine-point lead into the half, up 46-35.
The Blue Raiders would go back up by as many as 15 points midway through the third quarter, but TCU rallied and following an 11-5 run in the fourth quarter, the Horned Frogs cut the deficit to just a point, down 67-66. MTSU scored the next six points though and drained nine of its last 10 free throws down the stretch to come away with the victory.
