Garner sets sights on Tokyo with second place finish
FORT WORTH – Four current and former TCU rifle team members competed at part one of the Smallbore Olympic Trials held last week in Fort Benning, Ga.
Three Horned Frogs placed in the top 10 in the match. Rachel Garner, class of 2018, finished second overall in the match shooting a combined score of 2,342. Sarah Beard followed in sixth place with a score of 2,334 and current Frog Elizabeth Marsh rounded out the top 10 with a score of 2,324. TCU assistant coach and USA Shooting National Team member, Hannah Black, also competed, finishing the match in 17th place after firing a 2,306.
Garner posted the top score on the second day of competition with a 1,172. This helped her make the jump from eighth to second place. Garner is currently on target to represent the United States in Tokyo as the U.S. has two Olympic quota spots in three-position rifle.
All four athletes will represent the TCU again in March when they compete in the second part of the smallbore trials selection process.
