Lutz fires career-high 599 in air rifle
EL PASO, Texas – The top-ranked TCU women's rifle team closed out the regular season with a win at UTEP on Saturday. The Horned Frogs fired a team aggregate score of 4,700 in the victory.
TCU's mark of 2,382 in air rifle is tied for the fourth-best score in program history. The group combined to post a score of 2,318 in smallbore.
The Horned Frogs fired the top seven aggregate scores in the match. Rachel Garner led all shooters with an aggregate score of 1,181. Casey Lutz finished second with an 1,177 followed by Elizabeth Marsh (1,176), Angeline Henry (1,169), Kristen Hemphill (1,166), Abby Gordon (1,165) and Catherine Miller (1,158).
Lutz turned in a career-high 599 in air rifle to take home a first place finish. In all, six Frogs fired scores in the 590s. Hemphill finished second with a 595. Garner and Marsh each fired scores of 594, while Gordon shot a 591.
TCU boasted the top seven shooters in smallbore. Garner paced all participants with a 587. Marsh finished second with a 582. Lutz fired a 578, Noelle Christensen (578) and Henry (576) rounded out the top five.
UTEP finished with an aggregate score of 4,581. Jessica Boyce was the top shooter for the Miners. She fired an aggregate of 1,155 (570 smallbore/585 air rifle). Morgahn Warner led the squad in smallbore with a 571).
The Horned Frogs return to the range next weekend as they take aim at their fourth straight Patriot Rifle Conference championship. The event, featuring Air Force, Alaska, Nevada, Ohio State and UTEP, will be held in Fairbanks, Alaska. Day 1 will feature the smallbore discipline, followed by air rifle the next day.
