Rifle Freshmen Star at Junior Olympic Qualifier

Three earn automatic berths to the Junior Olympics
FORT WORTH – All five members of the TCU Rifle freshman class competed at the Texas Junior Olympic Qualifier match on Jan. 12 and 13. Of the five, three received the automatic qualification scores in both smallbore and air rifle at the J1 level.
The match served as a state qualifier for the Junior Olympics which will be held later this year in Colorado Springs. The cutoff score for automatic qualifiers was 575 in smallbore and 585 in air rifle.
Kristen Hemphill paced the smallbore field with a score of 585 while Angeline Henry and Abby Gordon both shot personal-best scores of 584. In addition to shooting a career-high, Gordon also notched a perfect 200 in the prone position. Noelle Christensen shot a mark of 571 and is eligible to receive an at-large bid in the coming weeks. Taylor Haffner also competed, posting a score of 562.
In air rifle, Hemphill once again led the way with a mark of 594. Henry shot the third highest score in the match, a 591, and Gordon followed with a solid 590. Haffner and Christensen rounded out the match with scores of 585 and 584, respectively. Both have a good chance at receiving at-large bids in the coming weeks.
TCU rifle returns to the range on Saturday Jan. 19 when it faces No. 4 Air Force and No. 11 Ohio State to kick off the spring season.
