Christopher Williams was named assistant coach for women’s tennis on Thursday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU women's tennis head coach Lee Taylor Walker announced on Thursday morning that Christopher Williams has been promoted to assistant coach.
After stints as a volunteer assistant coach for the program in previous seasons, Williams rejoins the Horned Frog staff after coaching tennis professionals on the ATP and WTA tour since 2012.
"We are very excited and grateful to promote Christopher to assistant coach," Walker said. "He's been a piece of our team as volunteer assistant for many years and has already contributed so much to the program. To now have his full and undivided attention is just an overwhelming positive transition for us and will have immediate and lasting implications for TCU tennis. His player development experience and knowledge combined with his overall professionalism and attention to detail sets him apart as one of the best coaches in the world."
Since beginning on tour in 2012, Williams has been the head of coaching teams in all four Grand Slams and achieved multiple ATP and ITF titles. Williams most recently travelled with Olivia Rogowska and served as a consultant to the coaching team of Jared Hiltzik in conjunction with Team USA and the resources of the Lake Nona Campus. He continues to work with Tim Smyczek in Dallas as a supplemental resource with USTA Lead National Coach Dustin Taylor. Williams also worked as a USTA Collegiate Coach for the 2018 Team at the Tulsa 25k, Wichita 25k, and Winnetka 75k Challenger.
Williams has travelled and been a member of the coaching teams of: Rhyne Williams, John-Patrick Smith, Denis Kudla, James McGee, Tennys Sandgren, Sam Groth, Dominik Koepfer, and Gonzales Austin.
At the core of this success has been the appreciation and passion for the mental game. From 2014 to 2015, Williams served as the Director of Mental Training for Bishops Gate Tennis Academy in Orlando, Fla., before serving as Lead Coaching Consultant for Add 2 Performance from 2016 to 2017.
Williams' coaching career started as a volunteer assistant coach for his alma mater, Tennessee. During his two seasons with the team from Aug. 2010 to May 2012, Williams helped coach four players to All-America honors and saw two different singles players and one doubles tandem achieve the No. 1 Wilson/ITA ranking. The team was SEC Regular Season Champions, while also finishing runner-up at the ITA National Indoor Team Championship.
Williams spent his first two years of college at Wofford, before transferring to Tennessee for his final two seasons. While in Knoxville, Williams helped his team to a 2010 SEC regular season and tournament championship and an NCAA runner-up finish. In 2009, the team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished the season ranked No. 8 nationally.
Williams received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Tennessee, graduating in July 2010 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and in May of 2012 with a master's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport psychology and motor behavior.
