Fisher, MacLean and Ravetto led the Frogs Friday
CARMEL, Calif. – Triston Fisher, Turner MacLean, David Ravetto all shot 3-under 69 to lead the TCU men's golf team in the opening round of The Carmel Cup Friday.
The senior trio is tied for 10th and led TCU to a fourth place standing heading into Saturday's second round at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Led by an eagle on the par 5 No. 2 hole, MacLean shot 4-under 32 on the front nine. After shooting a 69, MacLean has now shot under par in six of his last seven rounds at Pebble Beach. His eagle was one of three on the day for the Horned Frogs, the most of any team. Senior Hayden Springer eagled on hole No. 2 and Ravetto did so on the par-5 No. 6.
The Carmel Cup is one of the most challenging collegiate tournaments, not just because of the beautifully tough course, but also the competitive field. Five of the eight teams are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. The field includes four Big 12 Conference teams, including preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Oklahoma State. No. 3 Oklahoma leads at 20 under and Oklahoma State is second at 10 under. TCU is 6 under and trails third place Georgia (-8) by two strokes.
This weekend, the Frogs are without All-American Stefano Mazzoli as he will represent Italy at the World Amateur in Dublin, Ireland beginning on Sept. 5.
TCU will begin the second round at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com. GoFrogs.com will have full recaps after each day of competition.
