
Freshman Shines at Pebble Beach

CARMEL, Calif. – Freshman Alejandro Aguilera shot a team-best 5-under 67 to move up 13 spots in the second round of The Carmel Cup Saturday.
The newcomer from Madrid, Spain improved seven strokes from Friday's opening round and is now tied for 28th. Aguilera had a bogey-free front nine and finished 2-under 34 before shooting an eagle on the par 4 No. 20 hole. Senior David Ravetto, also had an eagle on the par 5 No. 2 hole.
Seniors Triston Fisher (-3) and Turner MacLean (-2) both shot under par on the day. MacLean has now shot under par in seven of his last eight rounds at Pebble Beach. Fisher, who competed on the course two weeks ago at the U.S. Amateur, is tied for 11th to lead the Frogs at 6-under 138. MacLean is at 5-under 139 and is tied for 15th.
As a team, TCU shot the same as Friday, 6-under 354, and is in fifth place overall at 12 under. No. 3 Oklahoma leads at 44-under par. TCU trails fourth-place Arkansas by five strokes.
This weekend, the Frogs are without All-American Stefano Mazzoli as he will represent Italy at the World Amateur in Dublin, Ireland beginning on Sept. 5.
