TCU wins the Jim West Challenge
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The TCU women's golf team carded a final round 2-under-par 286 Monday to win the Jim West Challenge for its second straight tournament championship.
The Horned Frogs, who shot below par in all three rounds, set a school record with their 54-hole score of 11-under 853. The previous mark was an 859 at the 2008 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. TCU edged No. 20 Florida State by one stroke for the title.
It's TCU's 20th tournament championship in 25 years under head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin and the first time it's captured back-to-back titles in her tenure. The Horned Frogs won the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio earlier this month.
Quote of the Day
"Wow, wow, wow," Ravaioli-Larkin said. "This team is truly incredible, from their work ethic to team synergy, leadership among them and discipline. They are the true definition of the Frog Factor!"
The Horned Frogs
Annika Clark and Sabrina Iqbal led the Horned Frogs individually as both tied for seventh.
Clark, the lone senior in the TCU lineup, had three birdies and shot par on 12 holes in posting a final-round 72. It was the second straight top-10 finish for Clark and the eighth of her career. Iqbal, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., and the co-medalist at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, posted her first career eagle and a pair of birdies en route to a 71.
Grace Do, like Iqbal, recorded her first career eagle on the fifth hole. Her three birdies came in a nine-hole stretch. The sophomore from Coppell, Texas, had a career-best finish with her tie for 10th. Her final-round 71 marked her second below-par round of the tournament.
Greta Bruner had her second 72 of the event, including a team-best four birdies in an eight-hole stretch.
