The Horned Frogs fell in five sets on Wednesday night in front of a sold-out crowd.
FORT WORTH, Texas – A tough battled ensued on Wednesday night as the TCU volleyball team went point-for-point with Baylor but ultimately came up short as the Bears came away with the 3-2 (25-17, 14-25, 25-15, 24-26, 15-8) victory at The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center.
A sold-out crowd was on hand for the showdown between the Horned Frogs (12-8, 4-5 Big 12) and the Bears (13-7, 5-4 Big 12) with a decisive fifth set needed to decide the match. After strong finish to the fourth set, TCU could not carry the momentum into the final frame as Baylor used strong serving as well as holding the Frogs to a negative hitting clip to claim the final set and match.
Anna Walsh and Katie Clark each led TCU with 14 kills a piece with Walsh also leading the defensive charge with 8.0 blocks. Tori Dilfer guided the offense with 43 assists and finished out the double-double with a team-best 13 digs. Lexi MacLean and Berklie Baker also chipped in on defense with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Stats of the Match
10 – Anna Walsh led TCU with 14 kills and totaled double-digit kills for the 10th straight match and 17th time this season.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Jill Kramer
Opening Statement
"No. 1, it was a great crowd tonight. I was really excited, especially with the weather the way it was, that people came and stayed because it was a long match. They stuck around and got behind us the whole time.
"I thought our team fought really hard tonight. Our offense was pretty balanced for the most part. We had some people step up. Ashley Waggle came in and did a really good job. Defensively we made changes and we got better as the match went on. Baylor moves a lot of pieces around and it is hard to keep track of for these guys and they did a really good job of continuing to defend well as things switched up. We just didn't come out on the right side of it and you just have to play a lot sharper in the fifth set and we didn't. Our serve and pass game wasn't as good as it had been some of the previous sets. We have to get better there."
