
TCU in Third After First Round

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Competing in one of the toughest tournaments in collegiate men's golf schedule, TCU finished the first round of The Carmel Cup in third place.
The Horned Frogs shot 9-under 351 and finished one shot back of No. 3 Oklahoma (8-under 350) for second place. No. 1 Oklahoma State leads the tournament, held at Pebble Beach, at 22-under 338.
The eight-team field includes five top 25 teams, as ranked by the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. Last season's Carmel Cup ranked as the second toughest tournament all season by Golfweek.
Juniors Pierre Mazier (France) and Hayden Springer (Trophy Club, Texas) finished the first round tied for fifth at 4-under 68. Mazier played bogey-free golf with four birdies on the day. In his first round after transferring from Texas Tech, Springer finished with five birdies.
Four of the six Frogs that competed shot under par. Junior Turner MacLean (Fort Worth) birdied three of his first five holes and finished tied for 15th at 2-under 70. Junior Stefano Mazzoli (Italy) shot 1-under 71 and finished tied for 20th place.
Junior Triston Fisher (Southlake, Texas) finished the first round tied for 33rd at 2-over 74.
