HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- In very blustery conditions, the TCU men's golf team finished the first round of the Big 12 Championship in eighth place as the four-round tournament began Monday in Hutchinson, Kan.
Constant wind of 30 MPH at the Prairie Dunes Country Club made any attempt at quality play a challenge. Due to the conditions, what was supposed to be a 36-hole first day, ended after 18 holes. Play is set to resume with 36 holes on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
The Horned Frogs were 38-over 318, 16 shots behind the leader, No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State (+22).
Senior Chelso Barrett (Keene, N.H.) was TCU's top player on Monday. He is tied for 12th place at 7-over 77. Sophomore Pierre Mazier (France) was one shot behind Barrett at 8-over 78 and is tied for 18th. Barrett is five shots off the leader, Daniel Hudson of Kansas (+2).
"I was expecting 36 holes at the beginning of the day, but I'm glad they stopped play," said Mazier. "It was really tough. Sometimes the balls couldn't stay on the green. Every time the ball had some roll to it, it couldn't stop. Tomorrow, the wind is supposed to slow down a little bit so it should be better conditions."
Sophomore Stefano Mazzoli (Italy) is tied for 28th at 10-over 80. Sophomore Turner MacLean (Fort Worth) is tied for 40th place at 13-over 83 and sophomore Triston Fisher (Southlake, Texas) is tied for 44th place at 15-over 85.
TCU Notables

His birdie on 18 was one of the few times the wind did good instead of cause harm. After hitting a 15-foot putt just past the hole, the wind pushed it back in. Barrett's second birdie came on the par five seventh hole. - Fisher had the only other birdie for TCU, also on the seventh hole.
