FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 24 TCU women's tennis team will wrap-up the 2016-17 regular season by heading to Waco, Texas to take on No. 18 Baylor on Wednesday, April 19.
The Horned Frogs (13-7, 5-3 Big 12) and the Bears (17-5, 4-2 Big 12) will start action at 4 p.m., at the Hurd Tennis Center. The TCU men's tennis team will also be on hand as they face Baylor at 6 p.m.
TCU Notables
TCU is riding a three-match winning streak and has won four of its last five matches entering Wednesday's season finale with Baylor. In the team's last match, the Frogs scored their biggest win of the season as they upset No. 7 Texas Tech, 4-1, at home to mark the third straight season upsetting a top-15 ranked opponent.
In the rankings, Arantekin is still ranked in the singles poll at No. 62 with 17 wins on the season with 10 coming in dual match play. In the doubles poll, Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas hold the best team ranking at No. 12 with nine wins on the season and four over ranked opponents. Garrido-Rivas and Seda Arantekin are also in the doubles poll at No. 27 with a 5-0 mark in dual match play and three wins over ranked opponents.
Scouting the Bears
Baylor enters Wednesday's match on a four-match winning streak and victories in seven of the last eight matches. Bears swept West Virginia, Iowa State and SMU before scoring the 4-2 win over Texas in their last outing. Blair Shankle leads Baylor with a No. 5 singles ranking and a 22-4 mark. The senior has gone 4-1 in conference action this season with six wins over ranked opponents. Rhiann Newborn rounds out the singles rankings at No. 116 while Shankle pairs up with Elizabeth Profit for the lone doubles ranking of No. 48.
All-Time Series Records
TCU and Baylor will be facing off for the 36th time in program history and sixth time since becoming conference rivals in 2012. The Frogs hold the slight edge in the overall series record at 18-17, but the Bears have picked up the win in the last four straight meetings. The last time TCU caught the victory came in 2013 with a 4-2 win in Waco. Baylor is 9-8 against TCU when playing in matches at the Hurd Tennis Center.
