The Rundown
Luken Baker got the scoring started with a solo home run to lead off the second inning.
TCU held that lead behind a dominating performance from Mitchell Traver (2-0) who faced just one batter over the minimum in his four innings of work. He allowed just one hit and struck out five.
A two-spot in the fifth helped TCU open up a 3-0 lead. Nolan Brown led off the frame with the first of his two doubles on the night. After swiping third, he scored easily on a ground out from Elliott Barzilli. Ryan Merrill singled with one out and scored after rounding the bases on three wild pitches.
In the sixth, Cam Warner scored on an errant throw to make it 4-0, but the Patriots cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning with two runs on two hits and an error. Sean Wymer got a strikeout to strand the tying runs in scoring position to end the inning.
TCU got the runs back in the seventh, taking advantage of a trio of walks to open the inning. Evan Skoug hit a sacrifice fly and Warner grounded out to make it a 6-2 game.
Once again, the Patriots picked up a run to pull within three, 6-3, but the Frogs responded with three runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach. The big blow was a two-run, bases-loaded single off the bat of Wade that put the game out of reach.
