COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Junior Scotty Newton will represent TCU in the triple jump at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, March 11, at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station at 5 p.m. CT.
Newton will be competing in his third NCAA meet on Saturday. The Bakersfield, Calif. native earned bids to the outdoor championships in the triple jump as a freshman (2015) and a sophomore (2016). Last year, Newton placed 20th at nationals, and he currently holds a personal-best mark that is nearly a foot and a half better than his previous best.
During the indoor season, Newton took home back-to-back first-place finishes at the New Mexico and Frisco Invitationals. Newton eclipsed his personal bests at both meets with marks of 52-3.75 (15.94 meters) and 53-4.25 (16.26 meters), respectively. Newton currently ranks No. 8 in the country and ranks second on TCU's all time list, behind only Jonathan Jackson's (2008) distance of 53-6.5 (16.32 meters).
Live results of the meet will be available via NCAA.com, and WatchESPN will provide a live broadcast of the meet.
