FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 22 TCU men's tennis team wrapped up its California Spring Break road trip with its fourth straight win as the team scored a 4-1 victory over Pepperdine on Thursday night at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu.
The Horned Frogs (9-4) cruised to the doubles point for the second straight match and third time out of the four matches played in California as the top duo of Reese Stalder and Jerry Lopez clinched the point with a 6-4 win on court one. The No. 27 ranked pair of Alex Rybakov and Guillermo Nuñez also scored a win in doubles with a dominant 6-0 victory on court two over the Waves (4-7).
No. 23 Cameron Norrie put TCU up 2-0 and collected his 10th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court one. Pepperdine would get its lone point with a win on court six, but No. 84 Rybakov put the Frogs closer to the win with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court two for his 11th straight victory of the season. For the second straight match, Reese Stalder clinched the overall match victory with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court five for his fifth win in dual match play.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"I was very pleased with our doubles performance today at all spots. That was a very important point. Cameron (Norrie) put us up 2-0 playing well and then things got a little tight. (Alex) Rybakov and Reese (Stalder) closing out the matches in two sets was important because we weren't getting the performance we wanted out of the middle of the lineup. We will take a win any way we can. Pepperdine is tough and well coached which puts a lot of pressure on all opponents. We have a few more weeks before we start the toughest tennis conference and we need to continue to improve if we want to compete for the conference title again. We had great support here in southern California from family, parents, other TCU athletes and alumni."
