
Fourth Quarter Run Sinks TCU at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas -- A hot start by Texas Tech to open the fourth quarter was the difference as the TCU women's basketball team fell to the Lady Raiders, 79-64, at United Supermarkets Arena on Monday night in the regular season finale.
TCU (12-17, 4-14) will have a chance at revenge when it meets Texas Tech (13-16, 5-13) again in the first round of the Big 12 Championships, which begin on Friday night in Oklahoma City.
On the road on Monday, the first four minutes of the fourth quarter were all that separated TCU and Texas Tech as the Lady Raiders opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to break open a one-point game.
The Frogs shot just 37 percent (22-of-59) with that percentage being drastically affected by a 5-of-17 fourth quarter. Jada Butts led TCU with 15 points.
On the other hand in the fourth quarter, Texas Tech shot 8-of-14 as part of a near 50 percent second half shooting percentage. Larryn Brooks scored 21 for the Lady Raiders while Ivonne CookTaylor added 20.

Texas Tech started the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to turn a one-point game after three quarters into a 64-50 lead with 6:15 to go. In that nearly four-minute span, the Lady Raiders hit 4-of-6 shots, plus five free throws, while TCU was 0-of-5 with three turnovers.

3 -- For the third straight season, TCU is going to play the same team in its regular season finale and opening game at the Big 12 Championships.

TCU and Texas Tech will meet again in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. The winner of that game will then take on Baylor in Saturday's quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m.
