TCU Places Third At New Mexico Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The TCU men's and women's track and field team won nine events at the New Mexico Team Invitational on Saturday. Overall, the men's squad finished in third with 104 points, while the women placed third with 101 points.
The Races
Junior Kevin McClanahan and freshman Jostyn Andrews opened up the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 600 meters. McClanahan took home first at 1:18.51, and Andrews logged a silver medal time of 1:20.46. On the women's side, senior Tiffany Terry took care of things in the 600 meters with a first-place finish of her own at 1:32.02.
In the men's 60-meter dash, three Horned Frogs earned a spot in the finals. Senior Jalen Miller led the way in the prelims and held on to first place in the next round, but he had a little friendly competition right beside him. Junior Emeilo Ferguson and Miller were neck-and-neck in the race, and Miller edged out the win by two-thousandths of a second. Miller ended up at 6.714 with Ferguson at 6.716 for another 1-2 finish for TCU. Senior Raymond Bozmans took home fifth in the finals at 6.83.
The women's 60-meter dash saw sophomore Sabrina Moore notch a second-place finish behind a time of 7.54. Senior Judy Emeodi followed in third place at 7.56, and senior Iphona-Clemence Paiement placed seventh at 7.73. Moore's biggest highlight, though, came in the 200-meter dash as she produced a first-place time of 24.43.
Junior Scotty Newton swept both jumping events on Saturday. In the triple jump, he recorded a personal-best mark of 52 feet 3.75 inches (15.94 meters) to place first. He also recorded the top distance in the long jump at 23 feet 10 inches (7.26 meters). Right behind him in third place was sophomore Lebogang Maloka at 23 feet 5.25 inches (7.14 meters).
Sophomore Kayla Heard placed first in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 53.77.
In the 200 meters, Bozmans took home third as he tied his personal best in the event with a time of 21.38. Sophomore Darrion Flowers clocked in at 21.68 to place sixth.
Coming off a school-record performance last week, sophomore Brenley Goertzen earned second in the mile run with a time of 4:51.84, the third-fastest time in program history.
Sophomore Brittney Trought recorded a 60-meter hurdles time of 8.55 in her first race in Purple and White. Sophomore Lexi Aitken and junior Makaila Flannigan also qualified in the preliminaries.
On the throwing side, sophomore Justin Sanchez hit a personal best in the weight throw for the second-straight week with a distance of 59 feet 3 inches (18.06 meters). Freshman Isaiah Rogers won the shot put with a mark of 57 feet 3 inches (17.45 meters).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Terry, Heard, Aitken and Emeodi posted a first-place time of 3:43.66, while the men's 4x400 squad of McClanahan, Andrews, Ryan Champlin and Derrick Mokaleng clocked in at 3:09.89, placing second, to close out the meet.
