FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women's tennis team will continue fall action this weekend by splitting the team between the Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock, Ark., and the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Donika Bashota will head to Houston to take part in the tournament at Rice, while Seda Arantekin, Caroline Wegner, Sofiko Kadzhaya, Alexis Pereia and Madison Tedford will head to action at the Little Rock Country Club.
"This weekend presents itself with many ranked opportunities for our team," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "The main reason for going to two different places each weekend in these fall tournaments is to allow as many of our players as possible to play in the highest draws, which leads to more individual ranked opportunities and a chance to build our teams individual rankings. I'm confident we have well over half our team that should be in the national rankings, so I'm hoping this weekend the players can capitalize off the momentum that was started last weekend.
"Little Rock is a lovely tournament hosted at Little Rock Country Club. The club and community do a fantastic job putting on a first class event and we are grateful to be a part of this for the first time at TCU, and want to remain a staple team in this event for years to come. Rice has a beautiful new facility and a variety of teams from all over Texas and the southeast. It allows us to really see where our top players stack up with some of the best in Texas and the SEC."
Last weekend, No. 57 Bashota made it to the finals of the Yellow draw at the Duke Bonk Invite with wins over opponents from VCU and Virginia. No. 114 Arantekin also went 2-1 to win the consolation finals of the white draw. Kadzhaya posted the best record of the players that went to the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational as she advanced to the round of 16 and finished with a 3-1 singles record.
