Best In The U.S.
Baker, the senior sprinter from Louisville, Ky., won the Big 12 60-meter dash at the conference meet with a school and Big 12 record time of 6.51. His time currently ranks No. 1 in the nation and is tied with former TCU great Kim Collins for the third fastest in the world this year. Baker's time is also tied for the 8th-fastest in collegiate history.
Defend The Title
At last year's NCAA Indoor Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., Baker became the NCAA Champion after running a school-record time of 6.52 in the 60-meter dash. His time broke Kim Collins' 15-year-old school record of 6.53.
Finish Where They Started
Baker and Watts began their collegiate careers at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Jan. 19, 2013. The two seniors will conclude their TCU indoor careers on the same track, but this time on the national stage. In his TCU debut, Watts placed sixth in the 200-meter dash, finishing at 21.56. Since his first day competing in purple and white, the London, England native has shaved almost an entire second off his 200-meter time.
Baker will also finish his indoor season on the same track where it all began. Baker anchored the men's 4x400 relay in his TCU debut, helping the Frogs place second with a time of 3:12.66. Baker started his career with the 400-meter dash, and in his first collegiate meet in 2013, he ran a 48.49, placing 10th out of 56.
Scouting The Field
Baker holds the top seed in the men's 60-meter dash (6.51). Following him is Tennessee's Christian Coleman and Oklahoma State's John Teeters at No. 2 and 3 with seeded times of 6.54. Coleman was the SEC Champion in the event after running a 6.56 in the finals. Teeters placed second behind Baker in the 60 meters at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 6.64. In the prelims, Teeters beat Baker by .004 seconds. At the time of the championship race, Teeters held the nation's best time at 6.54.
In the men's 200-meter dash, Sam Watts holds the nation's seventh fastest time at 20.60. Topping the charts is Brendon Rodney, a senior from LIU Brooklyn, with a seeded time of 20.46. Also competing in the 200 meters is LSU's Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (20.51), Florida's Arman Hall (20.55) and Texas A&M's Devin Jenkins (20.58), among others. Coleman (20.54) will also be competing in the 200-meter dash.
McGhee is ranked No. 9 in the nation in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.14. McGhee will be competing against Oregon's Sasha Wallace (7.96), Michigan's Cindy Ofilli (7.97), Purdue's Devynne Charlton (7.97), LSU's Mikiah Brisco (8.05) and Florida State's Mulern Jean (8.08), among others.
Hurdling Into The Record Book
In the season opener in College Station, McGhee broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26. The previous record of 8.30 was set 12 years ago by MaKeatha Cooper. McGhee didn't stop there, though. She went on to run an 8.14 at the Big 12 Championships, bringing the TCU-best time down by sixteen-hundredths of a second throughout the 2015-16 indoor season.
