FORT WORTH -- Ronnie Baker of TCU track and field was named the South Central Athlete of the Year for the 2016 NCAA Division I Indoor season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Friday afternoon.

Baker, a senior sprinter from Louisville, Ky., won the Big 12 60-meter dash last week with a school and Big 12 record time of 6.51. His time currently ranks No. 1 in the nation and is tied with former TCU great Kim Collins for the second-fastest in the world this year. Baker's time is also tied for the 8th-fastest in collegiate history.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only individuals from USTFCCCA member programs were eligible for awards.
Baker will return to action on March 11 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. where he will defend his 60 meter title. Baker topped the leaderboard at last year's championship with a time of 6.52.
