FORT WORTH – After an unexpected weekend off due to the winter storm that hit the East Coast, the TCU women's rifle team is set to return to the firing range Sunday when it hosts Coast Guard.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a dominating performance over Ohio State in which they surpassed the 4,700 plateau for the third time this season. TCU fired a 4,703, a mark that ties for the fourth-best aggregate score in school history, in moving to 9-0 on the season.
TCU's dynamic underclassmen trio of Mindy Miles, Nicole Hankey and Rachel Garner led the way. Miles posted a match-best 1,181 (584 smallbore; 597 air rifle) aggregate score. Hankey was close behind with an aggregate score of 1,179 (583 smallbore; 596 air rifle). Garner's 1,175 (583 smallbore, 592 air rifle) was third among shooters.
On the season, TCU is averaging a team score of 2,370 in air rifle and a 2,326 in smallbore. The Frogs enter the weekend tied for third nationally in the latest CRCA poll.
Coast Guard produced a team score of 4,506 in a loss at No. 15 Akron last week. Nicholas Paisker was the team's top shooter in both disciplines. David Rose, Jacob Dupree and Melissa Brizzi all fired personal bests in air rifle, while Randall Ford established a career high in smallbore. The Bears enter this weekend's match with a 9-6 record.
