FORT WORTH -- The TCU track and field team wrapped up action at the New Mexico Invite on Saturday with five first-place finishes in Albuquerque.
"We had a pretty good meet today," said director of track and field Darryl Anderson. "It got slowed down with a delay, but we still had good performances."
Bowerman Watch List selection Ronnie Baker earned first in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. In the 200 meters, Baker logged a personal-best time of 20.60. His effort marked the second fastest NCAA time this season and ranks as the second-best time in TCU history, trailing only former World Champion Kim Collins.
Baker also took home first in the 60 meters with a time of 6.61 after recording a season-best time of 6.58 in the prelims.
"Ronnie is pretty consistent at going out there and competing to win races," said Anderson. "He had a personal best in the 200 meter even though he hasn't run many 200s at TCU."
Senior Sam Watts also finished among the top in the 200 meters with a third-place finish at 20.93. Watts currently holds the eighth-best time in the country.
"Overall, I feel that we had very pleasing performances in the 200."
Senior Brianna McGhee continued her success in the 60-meter hurdles as she finished first with a time of 8.27. Her time was just one-hundredth of a second off her school record performance that was set last month.
"Brianna is just very consistent on the track," said Anderson.
Junior Tiffany Terry opened the meet with the top time in the 600-meter run, clocking in at 1:32.08. After that race, she also pulled out a third-place time in the 400 meters (55.08).
"Getting first in the 600 and then doubling down on the 400 is very tough to do."
Sophomore Scotty Newton also picked up a first-place finish on Saturday with the top mark in the triple jump (15.62m, 51-3.00).
In his season debut, senior Joshua Washington returned from injury to compete in the 400 meters, earning a time of 47.46.
"All in all, we had productive things happen today," said Anderson.
Next up, TCU will head to College Station on Feb. 5 for the Texas A&M Team Meet.
