Rifle Returns To Action Sunday

FORT WORTH – The third-ranked TCU women's rifle team kick starts its spring season Sunday when they play host to No. 7 Ohio State. The Horned Frogs closed out the fall campaign with an 8-0 record.
The match marks the first of six remaining matches on the schedule. Four of the six matches will be shot at the TCU Rifle Range.
TCU has averaged a team aggregate score of 4,695 through the first eight matches of the season. On three occasions the team surpassed the 4,700 plateau, marking the first time since the 2012-13 season the team has reached that mark.
In air rifle, the Horned Frogs are led by Mindy Miles' season average of 593. Three times this season she has fired a score of 598. Also averaging over 590 in the discipline this season are Hannah Black (591), Nicole Hankey (591) and Sally Li (591). As a team, TCU has posted an average score of 2,369.
On the smallbore side, TCU is led by freshman Rachel Garner's 583 average. Black (582) and Li (580) are close behind helping the Horned Frogs to a season average of 2,326 in smallbore.
TCU and Ohio State are squaring off for the second time this season. The Frogs came away with a 37-point victory over the Buckeyes back on Nov. 15. TCU fired a team score of 4,695 in Columbus. It was led in air rifle by Garner's 587 in smallbore and Black's 595 in air rifle.
Ohio State enters the match with an average score of 4,671 this season. Drew Cheezum is the team's top smallbore average shooter at 581, while Michael Steinel paces the squad in air rifle averaging a 589.
