FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis head coach Lee Taylor Walker announced the addition of Georgia transfer Mia King to the 2015-16 roster on Friday morning.
"The timing couldn't be any better for Mia to join our team," Walker said. "In a year where we originally had no seniors, we now have one with Mia. We expect Mia to be a great example to everyone in all aspects of our program. Whether it be in her fitness and training habits, practice and match intensity, academic studies and organization, as well as using her outgoing personality to create great team chemistry.
"We were able to spend a lot of time with Mia and really discuss whether or not our coaching philosophy, schedule and expectations for her were a great fit or not. Mia likes to go for her shots, move forward and play free. She likes a clear vision and structure, and those are all certainly characteristics of anyone who has flourished under our system. She understands what it's going to take and she is very hungry and ready to get started. We look forward to having her on campus this July."
King, a 5-foor-6 native of Charlotte, N.C., signed a Grant-in-Aid to join the Horned Frogs for her senior year after spending the first three seasons of her collegiate career at Georgia.
"I chose TCU for many reasons, but one was because of the great reputation it has academically and athletically," King said. "My main reason for picking TCU was because of Coach Walker. His energy and enthusiasm made me eager to work with him. I'm super excited about meeting my new teammates. Most of them I don't know very well, so I can't wait to get to know everyone better and be a part of the Horned Frog tradition."
King was a part of a Georgia program that advanced to the NCAA Final Four this past season and the NCAA Quarterfinals the previous two seasons. King compiled an overall singles record of 43-15 and an overall doubles record of 36-9 in her career as a Bulldog.
In her freshman campaign, King went 15-5 in singles action and 14-6 in doubles including an 8-2 mark during the SEC regular season. King was able to wrap up the season on a five-match winning streak and clinched three matches for Georgia.
In her sophomore season, King finished with a final ITA doubles ranking of No. 71 with teammate Lily Kimbell after going 10-3 on the season. King played mainly singles during the spring season and helped clinch three matches for the Bulldogs.
King only saw action during the fall in her junior campaign, but went a perfect 10-0 in doubles action and captured the B Flight doubles title at the ITA Southeast Regional with teammate Hannah King. King was able to go undefeated in both singles and doubles play at the Wilmington Invitational and played to a perfect 3-0 record at the Ole Miss Invitational.
Before Georgia, King trained at the Rick Macci and Chris Evert Tennis Academies in in Boca Raton, Fla. before being invited to become a part of the USTA National Training Center program at the age of 14. King earned Player of the Year honors in her first year at the USTA National Training Center and ranked as high as No. 5 nationally in the USTA 16s age division King was a Blue Chip recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net and ranked among their top 25 players nationally.
