FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's tennis seniors Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova capped off their regular season careers with a 4-0 shutdown of No. 15 Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The No. 19 Horned Frogs (17-7, 7-2) toppled the Red Raiders (17-5, 7-2) for the doubles point and then toughed out three straight singles wins to pick up their sixth straight victory and ninth blanking of the season. TCU defeated Texas Tech for the first time since joining the Big 12 Conference in 2012.
"Today was just an incredible way to end the regular season," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We beat a great program in Texas Tech, in front of a phenomenal crowd and beautiful weather. I couldn't be more proud of our two senior leaders who clinched the match for us. Stefane and Simona have been so consistent in their effort and attitude all year. It's just a real privilege to coach them. We are going to enjoy this one for the rest of the weekend and starting Monday, we will build on this momentum for conference championships."
Doubles was tightly contested, as all three courts battled evenly back-and-forth. TCU caught an early break on court one, as No. 39 Tan and Seda Arantekin picked up their fifth victory this season over a ranked opponent by downing No. 50 Kenna Kilgo and Gabriela Talaba, 6-3.
The Frogs were able to wrap up and clinch the doubles point on court three, as the pair of Sofiko Kadzhaya and Parajova grabbed their 10th straight victory at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 take out of Sarah Dvorak and Katelyn Jackson.
TCU kept the momentum going in singles action with Arantekin notching the first win with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jackson to move the Frogs up to 2-0 in the match.
The seniors would follow through in their home finale and would finish out the last two points for TCU. Parajova got her 22nd win of the season by defeating Talaba, 7-6(7), 6-3 on court two to improve to 14-2 in dual matches and win her ninth straight match.
The clincher would fall to All-American Tan, who broke No. 65 Kilgo at the No. 1 slot to win her match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 and claim the victory for TCU. Tan now has 14 wins on the season and has defeated three ranked opponents.
TCU is now in a tie for second place in the Big 12 Conference standings and will wait for their seeding in the Big 12 Tennis Championships that will take place from April 24-26 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
