FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 19 TCU women's tennis team picked up its fifth consecutive victory Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 win over West Virginia in Big 12 Conference action at the Bayard H Friedman Tennis Center.
With the win, the Frogs improve to 16-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play, while the Mountaineers drop to 9-9 overall and 0-6 in league play.
In their five-match winning streak the Frogs beat Oklahoma, North Texas, UTA, Iowa State and West Virginia.
"I felt it was a good way to finish leading up to Texas Tech," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We switched our doubles a little bit, and we gave ourselves some specific goals for the singles. I felt we were able to finish not just this match, but a four-match stretch in a sharp confident way."
TCU's Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova beat WVU's Hailey Barrett and Habiba Shaker, 6-1, and Seda Arantekin and Sofiko Kadzhaya outlasted WVU's Ikttesh Chahal and Carolina Lewis, 6-1, to get the early point for the Frogs in doubles.
No. 113 Tan defeated Kaja Mrgole in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 1 position, while No. 38 Parajova dispatched Hailey Barrett, 6-1, 6-1, and Arantekin closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-1, victory over Carolina Lewis.
The Mountaineers picked up their lone point of the match by forfeit at the No. 6 position.
The Frogs close out the regular season Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. when they host Texas Tech. The Big 12 Conference Championships are set for April 23-26 at Baylor.
