FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 17 TCU men's tennis team cruised past No. 58 New Mexico, 6-1, on Friday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (4-0) dominated from start to finish in the match after claiming the doubles point against the Lobos (4-5) and taking a victory on five of the six singles courts.
"This was a great team win tonight and we finished really well in each match tonight," head coach David Roditi said. "New Mexico is a good team and when they get their No. 1 player back, they will do very well."
TCU opened the match in doubles action and got off to a quick start with Hudson Blake and Trevor Johnson pairing up for only the second time this season to take the victory on court three. The pair defeated Jorge Escutia and Augustus Ge, 6-3.
Just moments later, the Frogs completed the doubles point with the No. 20 senior doubles pair of Nick Chappell and Will Stein taking the victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo notched their 14th win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Bart Van Leijsen and James Hignett.
In singles, New Mexico picked up its one and only point with a victory at No. 6 singles, before No. 24 Cameron Norrie took the lead right back for TCU with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Hayden Sabatka.
Leading 2-1, the Frogs never lost the lead the rest of the match and picked up the rest of the singles wins in the match. Next off the courts was No. 91 Will Stein who scored his 13th win of the season with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Facundo Lugones improved to 6-1 on the season in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rodolfo Jauregui on court four, while Johnson picked up his team-leading 15th singles victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ge.
In the final singles match, Chappell has to fight back after dropping the first set 6-4. The Indianapolis, Ind., native took the second set 6-3 and then was nearly unstoppable in the third set super tiebreaker by taking the match against Mitchell McDaniels by a score of 10-1 in the final set.
TCU will hit the road to take on No. 40 Tulsa on Sunday, Feb. 8 in Tulsa, Okla., at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
