FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 17 TCU women's tennis team won its second straight match at home with a 4-2 victory over No. 59 Tulsa in the indoor facility at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Saturday night.
The Horned Frogs (6-5) were led by their two seniors, Stefanie Tan and Simona Parajova, with both posting wins in doubles and singles action against the Golden Hurricanes (8-6) in the team victory.
"I have got to give a lot of credit to our seniors today," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "They led us in doubles and singles and it was great to see them take care of our home courts against a very dangerous Tulsa team. Palina (Dubavets) also continues to get better and better and it was fun seeing her close out her match in a dominant way.
"We are certainly happy about the win, but we also have some girls that really need to step it up and gain their confidence back. We need everyone feeling good out there and having fun in order to reach our goals this year."
In doubles action, Tulsa was the first to strike by taking the victory on court two, 6-1, to force TCU to battle back and win the next two matches to take the doubles point.
Seda Arantekin and Tan got the Frogs a win at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 upset victory over No. 46 Renata Kuricova and Ksenia Laskutova for the duo's 10th win of the season, third over a ranked opponent and fifth on court one.
The doubles decision would come down to court three as Parajova and Sofiko Kadzhaya faced off with Mahitha Dadireddy and Saana Saarteinen. Up 5-4, the TCU pair broke the Golden Hurricanes to claim the match, 6-4, and give the Frogs the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match.
Singles action got started in TCU's favor, with Dubavets snagging the first singles win for the Frogs with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court four for her 14th win of the season. Tulsa picked up its first point with a win at No. 5 singles, but TCU pushed the lead to 3-1 with No. 48 Parajova taking out her opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Parajova leads the team with a 15-4 record and 7-2 record on court two.
The Golden Hurricanes would take one more point with a win on court three, but Tan clinched the match for TCU after downing Laskutova 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
TCU will hit the road for the next five matches, starting with nonconference and metroplex rival SMU on March 5 at 3 p.m., in Dallas.
