"I thought we started off flat in the first 20-25 minutes. We didn't come out with enough energy," said head coach Eric Bell. "I definitely thought the second half we were much better as far as keeping ball and dictating pace. We were doing what we needed to do. It was unfortunate to give up the penalty kick goal, but I was happy with the team's ability to come back and fight. It was nice to get the goal in the first overtime. Definitely a good growing moment for our program."
After seeing their lead disappear in the late minutes of regulation, the Horned Frogs came out with a purpose in overtime. TCU earned a corner in the first minute of play before finally cashing in a minute later.
Maddie Payne worked the ball deep into the penalty box area and fed Madeline Hamm, who held the ball as she waited for her teammates to move into the area. Hamm served to a waiting Michelle Prokof on the far post. The freshman headed the ball to back to a wide-open Koch who buried the game-winner.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. Both goalkeepers were called on to make saves as TCU fired five shots on goal and Houston Baptist tallied four.
Houston Baptist ripped off four shots in the match's first 20 minutes, but TCU found its legs in the 25th minute. Huskie goalkeeper Stephanie Castellon was called on the make a trio of saves to keep the game scoreless.
A much different TCU squad took the field in the second half as it took control of the match. Five minutes in the Frogs earned a pair of corner kicks. They finally hit pay dirt on the second corner. Bobbi Clemmer made a perfect feed and Koch was there to knock in the goal for a 1-0 lead.
The TCU defense did its best to keep the Huskies at bay, limiting the shots to distance and allowing Arnold to see what was coming her way.
Late in the half as Houston Baptist fought to get the equalizer, a foul by the Horned Frogs in the penalty area gave HBU its chance. Rebekah Tovar didn't miss as she knotted the game at one on a penalty kick, sending the game to overtime.
TCU (2-1-1) will open the home portion of the schedule Friday night when it plays host to Illinois State at 7 p.m.
"When we put schedule together, we knew it was going to be a test," said Bell. "To come away 2-1-1 is not exactly what we all wanted but we are happy none-the-less. This road swing helped us grow as a team, but we are excited to play at home and have a home crowd."
