TCU Travels Into Texas Hill Country To Battle Bobcats Friday

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's soccer team will hit the road for the second time this fall, taking on Texas State at the Bobcat Soccer Complex Friday. The match is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. CT.

SCOUTING TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats are coming off their third-straight 12-win season, going 12-8-1 a year ago. Texas State returns eight starters from a squad that finished fourth in the Southland Conference in 2010. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Frazier is the rock of the Bobcats' defense, while the offense has three of the top four scorers back in Kelsey Bernard, Felecia Leask and Taylor Kelley.
Texas State enters the weekend with a 1-2 record, looking to rebound after a 3-0 loss at the hands of Navy on the road Friday. The Bobcats traveled to the northeast to battle Navy and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, but the second match was cancelled due to the effects of Hurricane Irene cutting through the region. TSU's lone win came in their home opener, shutting out Prairie View A&M, 6-0.
SERIES HISTORY
Texas State holds a slim 2-1-0 advantage in the all-time series against the Horned Frogs. The two programs rekindled the matchup in 2010, playing for the first time in nine years. The Bobcats came to Fort Worth and handed TCU a 3-0 defeat at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. The only matchup played between the two programs in San Marcos came in 2001.
ONE AND DONE
Despite dropping two of the first three games in 2011, TCU's defense hasn't been the problem. The Frogs have not given up more than one goal in a game this season, leading the Mountain West Conference in saves and tied for the league lead in goals allowed. True freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright has been solid between the pipes currently paces the MWC in save percentage (.926) even though she has faced a league-high 27 shots on goal in the early season.
LAST TIME OUT: VS. RICE AT HOME
TCU dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Rice Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. The Owls handled the ball for most of the match, toppling the Frogs in the shots department, 26-9. Senior Katie Taylor led TCU with a pair of shots for the night, while four other players landed a shot on goal. The Frogs had their best chance of the night slip by in the 62nd minute. Coming off of a corner kick by Slyman, senior Alex Mechalske opened up a strike from about 15 yards out, only to have it blocked by an oncoming Rice defender. The deflection landed at the feet of junior Shelby Campbell, but her shot attempted hit the side of the goal from the left side. Rice scored the eventual game-winner off of a set piece from the corner.
TWENTY-FIVE SEEMS SO YOUNG
The 2011 season marks the 25th anniversary of TCU women's soccer on campus. More than 300 student-athletes have had the pleasure of putting on the Purple and White since the program began in 1986, collecting a all-time record of 202-245-31 (.456) in 478 total matches. Only two head coaches have paced the sidelines for the Horned Frogs, David Rubinson (1986-04) and Dan Abdalla (2005-present).
NO. 100 AT GARVEY-ROSENTHAL
Sunday's matchup against Missouri will be the 100th game played on Jane Justin Field at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. After sporting a 6-1 home record in the inaugural season, TCU has continued to play well on its home turf ever since, boasting a 50-39-10 overall record.
