FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- TCU men's tennis head coach David Roditi announced the details of his team's 2011-12 schedule Tuesday. The Frogs will face a tough dual-match slate featuring at least 13 opponents who finished last season listed in the ITA national team rankings.
As usual, TCU will kick off its year with an extensive fall slate featuring several tournaments over a two-month period from mid-September through mid-November. TCU will host a three-day weekend Southwest Shootout tournament with Arkansas, Texas and Texas Tech.
The fall schedule will open with the Tulsa Challenger (Sept. 12-18), followed by Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 16-18) in Midland, Texas. TCU will return to Fort Worth to host an alumni weekend, Sept. 23-24, and a USTA Campus Showdown one-day tournament on Sept. 29.
The championship portion of the tournament season starts up with the annual ITA All-American Championships Oct. 1-9 in Tulsa, Okla., followed by three days in San Antonio for the UTSA Invitational (Oct. 7-9). The Frogs will take part in a pair of USTA Futures events in Austin (Oct. 10-16) and Mansfield (Oct. 17-23), before the ITA Texas Regionals Oct. 22-41 in College Station, Texas. TCU will round out the fall schedule with a pair of Challengers in Charlottesville, Va., and Knoxville, Tenn.
TCU's spring dual-match season will feature another tough non-conference lineup. Thirteen of the 17 scheduled opponents finished last season with a national ITA ranking. One notably difficult stretch for the Frogs will include seven-straight matches against such squads to open the season from Jan. 25 through Feb. 12.
The Frogs will play 12 matches at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center for the second-consecutive year. Home matches TCU has scheduled against teams that finished last spring among the nationally ranked include: No. 21 Texas Tech, No. 22 Oklahoma, No. 26 Tulsa, No. 41 Rice, No. 49 Santa Clara, No. 52 Boise State, No. 54 Arizona and No. 70 Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
The Frogs will also take on six 2011 ranked opponents on the road: No. 5 Georgia, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 57 Alabama and No. 60 UNLV. TCU could also face No. 35 Virginia Tech or No. 44 Nebraska, depending on how things shake out in the opening rounds of the ITA Kickoff weekend.
Conference play begins with road matches at UNLV and San Diego State on April 6 and April 8, respectively. The Frogs will return home to host Boise State (April 13), Air Force (April 15) and New Mexico (April 21).
The annual MWC Championships will be hosted by SDSU, April 26-29. The first and second round of the NCAA Team Championships follow at individual campus sites May 11-13, while the final rounds and Individual Championships will be held May 19-30 in Stanford, Calif.
