TCU Opens Play at Southwest Conference Shootout

FORT WORTH - TCU's men's tennis team opened play Friday at the Southwest Conference Shootout on the courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs were victorious in four singles matches, as well as three of their four doubles matches. Freshman Nick Chappell highlighted the day's play for TCU.
Chappell knocked off Rice's Peter Rice, 6-1, 6-2 in first round action of the A bracket. The newcomer from Indianapolis is 5-2 in singles play this fall.
JT Sundling won his first-round match over Raphael Pfister of Texas Tech, 6-2, 6-2, in the tournament's B draw. Daniel Sanchez also added a win in the B draw with a 7-6, 6-3 dismantling of UTA's Mindaugas Celedinas.
TCU's other two wins in singles came from Max Stevens and Will Stein. Stevens won 6-2, 6-0 over David Subirats of UTA, while Stein grabbed a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Rice's Leif Berger.
In the doubles A draw, Sanchez and Orlando Superlano were 8-7 winners over Harry Fowler and Michael Nuesslein of Rice. Sundling and Chappell also added a win in the A draw with their 8-5 downing of Texas Tech's Rafael Garcia and Gabriel Wanderley.
In the doubles B draw, TCU got a win from Stein and Wiggins after they knocked off Peter Frank and Phillipp Seifert of Rice, 8-5.
The Southwest Conference Shootout returns to action Saturday morning at the Friedman Tennis Center.
