Scouting Cameron
Cameron University, a member of the NCAA Division II, is led by fourth-year head coach Tom Webb, who led the Aggies to a 13-15 record and 6-8 mark in the Lone Star Conference last season.
Three starters and nine letterwinners return for Cameron in 2011-12, including two players who scored in double figures a year ago in Sabelle Diata and Alexis Williams, who averaged 16.2 and 4.1 points per game, respectively. Fellow starter Nicole Pendarvis also returns for the Aggies after starting 27 games last season. She averaged 8.0 points per game, while shooting almost 40 percent from the floor.
Horned Frogs Ready For 2011-12 Season
Going into 2011-12, the Horned Frogs will look to replace graduated all-conference honorees Helena Sverrisdottir and Emily Carter. Junior Starr Crawford, who garnered preseason all-conference accolades, was expected to play a major role in helping guide a young, but very talented and athletic squad this winter. She was recently ruled out for the upcoming season due to injury. In total, eight of the Frogs 12 players are either freshman or sophomores.
"This group has come in with a great work ethic. They are really working hard," said head coach Jeff Mittie. "They continue to get a little bit better every day and I like the direction we are heading in going forward."
Without Crawford's services this year, the Frogs now return a total of two starters off of last season's squad that finished second in the Mountain West and earned an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament. Returning starters include Delisa Gross and Antoinette Thompson.
Gross scored in double figures 10 times last season. During her two years on campus, the Horned Frogs are an impressive 11-4 when she scores in double figures. With Crawford out, Gross is TCU's leading scorer and rebounder returning this season after averaging 7.6 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game, respectively.
Thompson, a three-year starter and the Frogs lone senior this season, will welcome the addition of Whitney Williams to the backcourt, who sat out last season after transferring from Iowa State. Williams, who is an accomplished scorer, made 14 starts and saw time in all 33 games as a sophomore at Iowa State, helping the Cyclones reach the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. She ranked fourth in Big 12 three-point percentage, hitting at a .400 clip. In all, Williams scored in double figures in eight games in Ames.
Look for Briesha Wynn, Latricia Lovings and Meagan Henson to all make solid contributions this season after gaining valuable experience on the court as freshmen. The Frogs will also welcome the addition of five newcomers in Ashley Colbert, Logan Mittie, Jazz Parker, Chelsea Prince and Natalie Ventress.
TCU, who was recently picked to win the Mountain West, will play a total of nine nationally televised contests this season. The Horned Frogs will play on CBS Sports Network four times during 2011-12, while five other contests are slated for The MountainWest Sports Network (The Mtn.).
