Chappell Reaches Qualifying Bracket at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. - TCU freshman Nick Chappell collected a pair of wins to advance into the singles qualifying bracket at the ITA All-American Championships Sunday.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native started the day with a straight-set victory over Tyler Brown from UT-San Antonio, 6-3, 6-3. The newcomer punched his ticket into the week's qualifying bracket with a hard-fought, three-set win against Mississippi State's Zach White, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (8). The final round match lasted three hours.
Chappell will be joined by TCU junior Orlando Superlano in the singles qualifying bracket. Chappell will open the draw against Roy Kalmanovich from Illinois at 10:30 a.m., while Superlano will take on Marc Powers from Yale at 9 a.m., Monday. The duo will also team up in the doubles draw.
In other TCU action Sunday, senior Daniel Sanchez dropped his third round prequalifying match to Andre Stenger from Nebraska, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, while freshman Blake Wiggins dropped a three-set match to Ugur Atalay from George Washington, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Newcomer Will Stein also ended his weekend in Tulsa Sunday, falling 6-0, 6-1 to Joe Salisbury from Memphis.
