
Freshman Chappell Impressive at USTA Event in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas - TCU freshman Nick Chappell is making a name for himself early this fall season at the USTA Austin Hill Country Classic. Chappell fought his way into the single main draw and is still competing in the doubles bracket.
The newcomer started his week in the qualifying singles bracket, tallying three wins to advance into the main draw. His qualifying victories all came in straight sets against Ned Boone (6-4, 7-6 (1)), 2011 Big West Player of the Year Chris Kearney (7-5, 6-2) and Mac Styslinger (7-5, 6-1). In the main draw, Chappell dropped his opening match against former Texas All-American and All-Big 12 selction Ed Corrie by the score of 7-6 (2), 1-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, Chappell and his partner have tallied two main draw wins through Thursday. The tandem opened the week with a 7-6 (6), 4-6, (10-6) battle against the junior duo of Daniel Whitehead and Alex Hilliard from Texas. In the quarterfinals, Chappell's team knocked off the second-seed pairing of former Oklahoma All-American Andrei Daescu and Texas great Joshua Zavala, 7-6 (5), 1-6, (10-7).
Chappell will resume play at the Austin Hill Country Classic Friday in the main draw doubles semifinals against the No. 3 team of Ed Corrie and Chris Eaton.
