
Horned Frogs Fall To Ole Miss Sunday, 1-0

OXFORD, Miss. - The TCU women's soccer program outshot Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon, but dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.The Horned Frogs pressured the Rebels all day, firing 18 shots, including five on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net. Overall, junior Jordan Calhoun led the TCU offensive attack with eight shot attempts, including four on-goal. In the 86th minute of the match, Calhoun appeared to have tied the score at 1-1, but her shot hit the crossbar.
Following their Friday night win over nationally ranked Memphis, the Horned Frogs came out firing on all cylinders, connecting on five of the first six shot attempts in the game. Calhoun tried to jump-start the Frogs at the 9:09 mark of the first half, but her shot was blocked by a Rebel defender. Kaylie Garcia followed the junior's shot with a shot of her own, just missing as her attempt sailed wide of the goal.
Halfway through the first half, Calhoun, a Norman, Okla., native, boomed a shot towards Ole Miss goalkeeper Sarah Story, but Story dived on the ball to keep the score at 0-0 in the 35th minute.
In the 42nd minute, Dylan Jordan just beat senior Kelsey Walters, netting the eventual gamewinning goal.
Calhoun tried one last time to tie the game right before the break, but Story was up to the task again to keep TCU off the board heading into halftime.
Just like the beginning of the game, the Frogs came out pressuring Ole Miss, connecting on three of the first four shot attempts of the second half. Freshmen Brittany Slyman and Kelly Johnson tried to rally the Purple and White in the 47th minute, just missing on consecutive shot attempts.
In the 63rd minute, Calhoun appeared to have tied the game at 1-1, but couldn't slide the ball past Story, who posted five saves on the day.
Jackie Torda had a chance to tie the ballgame late in the contest, but her shot attempt was derailed by an Ole Miss defender who slid in the way to keep the Horned Frogs off the board.
Johnson tried to rally TCU late in the ballgame, but Story saved the ball to secure the Rebel victory on Sunday afternoon.
For the game, the Purple and White outshot Ole Miss, 18-15, including 10-6 in the first half. Calhoun and Johnson both had solid matches on Sunday, firing away 8 and 3 shot attempts, respectively. Walters recorded five saves on the defensive end for the Horned Frogs.
With the loss, TCU moved to 4-4-1 on the year, while the Rebels improved to 4-4-1 on the young season.
The Horned Frogs will look to get back to their winning ways next Friday night at UTSA. Start time is set for 7 p.m. in San Antonio.
