POSTGAME QUOTES
No. 4 TCU 45, Baylor 10
Fort Worth, Texas (Amon G. Carter Stadium)
Sept. 18, 2010
Attendance: 47,393
TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson
On his team's offensive performance against Baylor
"I was happy with the offense. Any time you play as long as we did, move the football and score points, it's really hard not to win the ball game. When you get the ball in the end zone, it's easy to play defense that way."
On containing Baylor QB Robert Griffin III
"The biggest thing is we wanted to contain Griffin, and except for a couple of plays, we did that. We wanted to make sure we didn't allow him to run the football. We wanted to make sure we didn't give up any deep balls."
On quarterback Andy Dalton's decision-making
"Offensively, we wanted to be able to control the football. I thought Andy called a great game as far as getting us in and out of plays."
On Andy Dalton controlling the offense
"I wasn't surprised. We've got a senior quarterback. We've got a bunch of guys back. It's one of those things where they scored 62 points on a (FCS) team, and they scored 30 points on a top-25 team. We really controlled the ball two weeks ago against Oregon State, and I think you've got to give Andy a lot of credit for the way that the offense has been performing. That's what a senior quarterback is supposed to do."
Baylor Head Coach Art Briles
On what concerns him about Baylor's performance:
"I think the way they controlled the tempo of the game on both sides of the ball (concerns him). They were free offensively. They executed, and they were good on defense. They have been doing that for years. I have been saying all along that they are a really good football team, but the thing that bothers me is that we never really challenged them much. We never really put ourselves in a position to put pressure on them, and that's something we have to get better at doing."
On Andy Dalton's performance:
"He is good. He was in rhythm and he had a lot of confidence. Every time he went out on the field, he knew he was going to work for it every time. We were never able to get him out of rhythm."
On his players having confidence:
"You can't panic and you can't feel sorry for yourself. There aren't a lot of people in Houston who are feeling sorry for us right now. Rice is looking to get after us next week and we have to go try and beat them. If you wallow in self pity, you won't see yourself growing. We didn't do a whole lot right. I didn't do a whole lot right. I feel embarrassed for Baylor University, but we are going to fight our tails off and get it right. We aren't going to let this be the thing that defines us in 2010."
On TCU's defense:
"We got down so quick that it became a Catch-22. We didn't really get set with our game plan. We lost it about halfway through the first quarter."
TCU senior wide receiver Jeremy Kerley
On the importance of jumping out to an early lead:
"We knew we had to come out and attack like we did. They are a high-powered team. We had to get on them and get on them quick."
On TCU quarterback Andy Dalton:
"Day in and day out, Andy always gives 110 percent and that is what he expects of himself."
TCU senior quarterback Andy Dalton
On the play of TCU's offensive line:
"They did a great job. I felt like I did not even get touched other than the running plays. They did a great job run blocking in moving guys around and Ed (Wesley) and (Matthew) Tucker really ran hard today."
On the offense's success at moving the ball:
"We knew going into the game that we could just worry about what we could control and to go execute. That is what we were able to do. We came out fired up and ready to go and we played really well today."
TCU junior linebacker Tank Carder
On defending the home field:
"They are a great team, but this is the Carter (Amon G. Carter Stadium) and when you come here it is going to be a battle and a fight till the end. They played a great game, but we came out on top."
On TCU's improvement through its first three games:
"It keeps getting better and better. We are not going to play our best game until our last game. I feel like we got better on both sides of the ball, and hopefully next week we can keep getting better."
