Nichols, Chappell Open Fall Schedule

Senior Zach Nichols and junior Paul Chappell opened fall tournament play for the TCU men's tennis team Friday during the opening day of competition at the Racquet Club Invitational in Midland, Texas. The season-opening event runs through Sunday.
Nichols, the No. 6 overall seed in the men's singles draw, recorded a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over Rice's Christian Saravia in second-round action to advance to Saturday's third round. Nichols, who received a bye in the first round, will next face Texas Tech's David Pace on Saturday.
Also in the singles bracket, Chappell was knocked out of the main draw following a 6-4, 6-1 first-round loss to San Diego's Thibaut Visy, but rebounded with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over New Mexico's Joe Wood in the consolation bracket. The victory avenged a straight-sets loss to Wood in the Frogs' dual-match setback to the Lobos last spring in Albuquerque, N.M. Chappell will next play SMU's Joe Hatra on Saturday.
In the doubles main draw, the two Frogs earned an 8-3 victory over SMU's pairing of Hattrup/ Sajovitch before falling to Oklahoma's Formentara/ Warden in Round 2 action, 8-5.
