FORT WORTH—The TCU men's tennis team will open it's 2010 fall season this weekend by sending senior Zach Nichols and junior Paul Chappell to the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas. The tournament runs Friday through Sunday, with play beginning each day at 9 a.m.
In addition to the two Frogs, the tournament field also will feature players from Abilene Christian, Baylor, Maryland, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rice, San Diego, SMU, Texas, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UT Arlington.
Nichols and Chappell will team up in the doubles draw, as they look revisit the strong chemistry they were able to produce last spring. The tandem posted an 11-7 record during the 2010 dual-match season that included victories in nine of its last 12 outings. In addition to pairing up in doubles, both Nichols and Chappell will also compete in singles. Nichols has been seeded No. 6 in the singles draw.
Following the competition in Midland, TCU will return to action by featuring a larger contingent at the HEB Baylor Invitational Sept. 24-26 in Waco, Texas. Frogs will also compete in a pair of Futures Challengers this fall in Austin, Texas (Oct. 9) and Mansfield, Texas (Oct. 16). The championship portion of the tournament season kicks off with the annual ITA All-American Championships Oct. 2-10 in Tulsa, Okla., followed by ITA Regionals Oct. 23-26 in College Station, Texas. Players who advance through ITA Regional play will compete at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 4-7.
