2010-11 TCU MEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE
FORT WORTH—TCU men's tennis head coach David Roditi announced the details of his team's 2010-11 schedule Thursday. The Frogs will face a tough dual-match slate featuring at least 14 opponents who finished last season listed in the ITA's national team rankings.
As usual, TCU will kick off its year with an extensive fall slate featuring several tournaments over a two-month period from mid-September through mid-November.
Senior Zach Nichols and junior Paul Chappell get a head start on their teammates when they open their season at this weekend's Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas. Following the competition in Midland, TCU will return to action by featuring a larger contingent at the HEB Baylor Invitational Sept. 24-26 in Waco, Texas. Frogs will also compete in a pair of USTA Futures tournaments this fall in Austin, Texas (Oct. 9) and Mansfield, Texas (Oct. 16).
The championship portion of the tournament season starts up with the annual ITA All-American Championships Oct. 2-10 in Tulsa, Okla., followed by ITA Regionals Oct. 23-26 in College Station, Texas. Players who advance through ITA Regional play will compete at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 4-7.
TCU's spring dual-match season will feature another typically tough non-conference lineup. Eleven of the 15 scheduled opponents finished last season with a national ITA ranking. One notably difficult stretch for the Frogs will include 11 straight matches against such squads stretching from Feb. 6 through March 28.
The Frogs will play 12 matches at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, the highest total at home since when the squad played host to the Mountain West Conference Championships in 2008. Home matches TCU has scheduled against teams that finished last spring among the nationally ranked include: No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 34 Alabama, No. 45 Columbia, No. 48 Mississippi State, No. 50 San Diego State, No. 64 UNLV, No. 66 New Mexico State and No. 68 SMU.
The Frogs will also take on six 2010 ranked opponents on the road: No. 7 Baylor, No. 15 Texas Tech, No. 17 Oklahoma, No. 30 Rice, No. 36 BYU and No. 37 Tulsa.
Conference play begins March 28 with a home matchup against San Diego State. The Frogs will also play New Mexico and No. 64 UNLV in Fort Worth while traveling to Air Force, No. 36 BYU and Utah.
The annual MWC Championships will be hosted by Air Force April 27-30. The first and second round of the NCAA Team Championships follow at individual campus sites May 13-15, while the final rounds and Individual Championships will be held March 19-30 in Palo Alto, Calif.
