FORT WORTH—TCU junior guard/forward Helena Sverrisdottir was named to the State Farm/WBCA Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention Team Saturday. She earned the same honor earlier this week from the Associated Press.
Sverrisdottir is only the third player in program history to receive some form of All-America accolade. Former Frogs previously honored include Sandora Irvin, a consensus first-team selection as a senior in 2005 and honorable-mention choice as a junior, and Adrianne Ross, a member of both the WBCA and AP honorable-mention squads as a junior in 2004.
A native of Hafnarfjordur, Iceland, Sverrisdottir was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Year this past season while helping the Frogs win their first MWC regular-season championship. The squad advanced to play in the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons.
Sverrisdottir led TCU in assists (5.2 apg) and steals (2.2 spg) in 2009-10 while ranking second in scoring (13.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg). She was the only Mountain West Conference player listed among the league's top-15 individuals in each category. Her 161 assists marked the third-best individual total in school history, and she will enter her senior season as the only TCU player ever to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists in a career.
Sverrisdottir was joined on the honorable mention list by fellow Mountain West Conference player Jené Morris (San Diego State). The coaches also honored two other players from programs in the state of Texas in Baylor center Brittney Griner and Texas A&M forward Danielle Adams.
