LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Three TCU women's tennis players garnered 2010 All-Mountain West Conference honors, the league announced at the annual awards banquet Wednesday evening.
Senior Nina Munch-Soegaard, junior Katariina Tuohimaa and sophomore Kayla Duncan earned all-conference singles acknowledgment, while the team of Tuohimaa and Duncan were also tabbed for all-MWC doubles accolades.
Munch-Soegaard, a senior from Amarillo, Texas, tallied a 12-11 record this spring and a 6-2 mark in MWC play in her final season to claim her third All-MWC nod. The Amarillo, Texas native is three wins shy of tying Teresa Dobson (96-41) for the fifth-most career singles wins in TCU history and is currently listed as the No. 54 singles player in the country.
Tuohimaa nabbed all-conference singles and doubles recognition for the third-consecutive season, joining former Frog Anna Sydorska as the only two TCU players to be named to both MWC squads in three seasons. The Helsinki, Finland product was an outstanding performer in the heart of the Frogs' lineup, registering a 15-8 dual match singles record, including a 7-1 mark against the league.
Duncan was solid in her sophomore season for the Purple and White, registering a 10-12 spring record, including a 4-4 ledger against the MWC. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Duncan has two wins against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
As a doubles duo, Duncan and Tuohimaa stormed to an 11-5 record this spring. The tandem enjoyed a 6-2 record against the league and boasted 4-1 record against nationally-ranked teams. TCU's team were the only repeat honorees on the doubles list.
The sixth-seeded Horned Frogs will open the 2010 MWC Championships Thursday at 6 p.m. CT against No. 3 seed Wyoming. The match was originally scheduled for 4 p.m., but was pushed back due to high wind conditions that postponed Wednesday's action in Las Vegas.
