FORT WORTH – TCU has been named as one of 33 winners in the NCAA Division I “Pack the House” Challenge for women’s basketball. The Frogs earned the honor for attendance at their March 2 home finale against New Mexico.
“Pack the House” is an annual national effort in which conferences and institutions compete to build attendance for NCAA women’s basketball. Marketing staffs selected a home game and designated that date as a “Pack the House” game with the goal of setting an attendance record. One winner from each of the 32 conferences and one from a group of independent institutions were named. Selections were based on marketing plan creativity and attendance criteria.
TCU hosted 3,909 fans for its March 2 regular-season matchup against New Mexico to win the “Pack the House” challenge for the second straight year. The total, the second-largest home crowd of the season, ranked No. 20 among home crowds in the program’s 33-year history. The Frogs played in front of the 15th-largest home crowd earlier in the season, as 4,003 fans showed up for the squad’s Dec. 12 home contest victory over No. 5 Texas A&M.
The NCAA will award prizes and donate $500 to the nonprofit organization of each winning institution’s choice. TCU has designated Girls Inc. as the nonprofit organization that will receive the donation in its name. Girls Inc. is a national nonprofit youth organization that provides educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas
Overall, TCU averaged 2,563 fans per game this season, which was the fourth-best total in program history and the highest figure since the 2004-05 season.
