
Frogs Ready For Wichita State and Notre Dame

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team travels to take on Wichita State and No. 3 Notre Dame this weekend at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Center on the campus of Wichita State. The Horned Frogs are slated to take on the Shockers Friday at Noon, followed by a Saturday morning matchup with the Irish.
The Horned Frogs have three singles players and a pair of doubles teams listed in the latest Campbell's/ITA Women's National rankings. Sophomore Kayla Duncan is the top-ranked singles player for TCU, settling in at No. 88, while senior Nina Munch-Soegaard follows close behind at No. 89. Junior Katariina Tuohimaa rounds out the group, holding the No. 100 ranking in the country. In doubles action, the team of Duncan and Tuohimaa is currently listed as the No. 58 team in the nation, followed by the pairing of Duncan and Munch-Soegaard at No. 67.
Wichita State (6-8) enters Friday's match after falling to No. 25 Iowa and No. 33 Tulsa last week. Senior Lutfiana Budiharto is currently ranked No. 34 in singles and owns a 7-3 ledger this spring. The Shockers' top doubles tandem of Stephanie Dalmacio and Delia Damaschin are also listed in the national rankings, entering the weekend at No. 22. Friday will also serve as a reunion for TCU and former assistant coach Colin Foster, who is now the head coach for Wichita State. Foster coached at TCU from 2006 to 2009, helping to lead the Frogs to a pair of MWC regular season titles and a tournament crown in 2009.
The Irish are 13-2 on the season after a 4-3 win against No. 17 Vanderbilt on March 19. Sophomore Kristy Frilling leads the Irish, ranked 14th nationally with a 12-3 record at No. 1 singles, while senior Cosmina Ciobanu is riding a nine-match win streak and holds a 13-2 mark this season. Freshman Chrissie McGaffigan is ranked 99th in the latest ITA poll with a 10-5 mark in singles, followed by sophomore Shannon Mathews is 9-6 at No. 108. Notre Dame also have two doubles teams ranked in the ITA poll, headlined by the No. 4 tandem of Frilling and senior Kali Krisik with a perfect 11-0 mark at the top court. Frilling and Mathews also come in at No. 53 with a 2-0 record. Notre Dame has won the doubles point in 12 of its 15 matches this season.
TCU (1-11) will return home to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center to host the opening weekend of Mountain West Conference action against Air Force, Wyoming and Colorado State, April 2-4.
