FORT WORTH - Sophomore Sabine Rasch shined once again as TCU's women's swimming and diving team notched its second win of the season, a 136-103 triumph over Colorado State on Thursday at the TCU University Rec Center Natatorium.
"This is a big win for our program," TCU coach Richard Sybesma said. "We're now 2-1 and we're really looking forward to the Mountain West race."
The Horned Frogs improved to 2-1, 2-1 in the Mountain West Conference, while Colorado State fell to 2-5, 2-3. The win was the 399th in program history and the 399th in Sybesma's career.
Rasch continued her recent assault on the TCU record books, this time moving her way up the 50-freestyle all-time performance list. She touched the wall in 23.25 to tie Erin Irons for the third-fastest time in school history.
The Frogs began the meet in dramatic fashion, grabbing 11 early points in the 400-medley relay. Sophomore Parris Schoppa swam a freestyle leg of 51.56 to lead the TCU team to a 3:52.04 overall, less than three-tenths of a second ahead of second-place Colorado State.
Rasch picked up her second win of the evening when she notched a 51.29 in the 100-freestyle. The Luckenwalde, Germany, native is undefeated in the sprint events so far this season.
Senior Maria Paula Alvarez won the 200-freestyle and 500-freestyle, notching times of 1:51.64 and 4:58.10, respectively, as the Frogs once again showed their dominance in freestyle events.
Junior Lindsey Stevens added a win in the 1000-freestyle in 10:31.01 and TCU improved to 14-1 in freestyle events this season.
TCU capped its night with a win in the 400-freestyle relay. The team of Katie Scarsella, Alvarez, Zrinka Korac and Schoppa clocked a 3:29.45 to put the finishing touches on the win.
Overall, TCU claimed victories in nine of the 13 events. Other individual winners for the Frogs were Ashley Bolin with a 2:07.42 in the 200-IM and Christine Riddle with a 2:05.71 in the 200-butterfly.
The Frogs return to action Thursday when they travel to Laramie, Wyo., to take on the Wyoming Cowboys.
