TULSA, Okla.—Seniors Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price fell in the Round of 16 of the doubles main draw Friday at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships held at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Frog pairing, which was rated 23rd in the ITA's preseason list of national rankings, dropped an 8-3 decision to Virginia's Virginia's Drew Courtney and Michael Shabaz, the bracket's No. 3-seeded pairing. Courtney and Shabaz won the NCAA Doubles Championship for the Cavaliers last spring while posting a 24-5 overall record.
Brighiu and Price completed a successful week at the All-American Championships that saw the duo win three of five matches stretching from the qualifying draw through the main draw. After earning a surprise at-large berth in the main draw, the Frog tandem began the bracket with an 8-6 opening-round victory Thursday over Mississippi State's George Coupland and Zach White. In addition to the doubles success, Brighiu also reached the second round of the qualifying singles draw.
Friday's action completed TCU's competition at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships. TCU returns to action Saturday, Oct. 9, at a USTA Futures tournament in Austin, Texas. Junior Slah Mbarek and Sören Gortizka will represent the Frogs in singles at the event, while senior Zach Nichols and junior Paul Chappell will compete unattached.
