TULSA, Okla.--TCU seniors Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price earned a surprise berth in the doubles main draw at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships and posted a first-round victory Thursday at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Brighiu and Price, who were eliminated in the final doubles qualifying match for the main draw Wednesday, received an at-large selection to the championship bracket after a qualifying team pulled out of the competition. The Frogs responded by opening the main bracket with a victory Thursday, 8-4, over Mississippi State's George Coupland and Zach White. Brighiu and Price received the nation's No. 23 ranking in the ITA's preseason national doubles poll.
The victory advanced Brighiu and Price to Wednesday's Round of 16, where they will face the No. 3 overall seed, Virginia's Drew Courtney and Michael Shabaz. First serve has been set for 1:30 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on-line at the link at the top of this page.
